Dr. Gates entered Optometry school knowing he wanted to provide vision care to others. It was during his time working at a Vision Therapy office between classes he realized the truly life-changing and dramatic impact Optometric Vision Therapy has on children & adults of all ages.
Dr. Gates earned his Doctorate in Optometry from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida before going on to further his education and complete a residency in Vision Therapy / Rehabilitative Optometry in Bethesda, MD as well as a Fellowship in Vision Development & Rehabilitation. He is part of a select number of Optometrists to have this level of expertise in Vision Therapy / Rehabilitation. Dr. Gates has provided vision care to patients diagnosed with learning-related visual issues, binocular vision disorders, autism spectrum disorders, post trauma vision syndrome/post-concussion as well as stroke and traumatic brain injury. Dr. Gates also provides Sports Vision services for athletes looking for visual enhancement.
Current Optometric Practice, Personal & Professional Life
Dr. Gates is currently serving as the Director of the Vision Rehabilitation Clinic at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Omaha and Lincoln, NE and also has staff privileges at Methodist Rehabilitation Hospital in Omaha, NE. As a specialist in neurovisual rehabilitation, Dr. Gates provides neurovisual care to those who have suffered traumatic brain injury, stroke and spinal cord injury. Outside his time at the office, Dr. Gates enjoys spending time with his wife and family, reading, playing tennis and being active in his church and the community. Dr. Gates has had the honor of lecturing at national conferences including the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), as well as other conferences and events on topics including vision development, and vision rehabilitation.
